Will Shreyas Iyer’s break pave the way for Sarfaraz Khan?
Sarfaraz Khan emerged as a strong candidate for selection after Shreyas Iyer took a break from red-ball cricket due to ongoing fitness issues. Iyer had been expected to be selected for the upcoming home test series, but his unavailability has opened the door for other contenders like Sarfaraz.

Manav Suthar and Narayan Jagadeesan set to be picked in India squad
Well, Narayan Jagadeesan is likely to be picked as the backup wicketkeeper, with Dhruv Jurel being the first-choice wicketkeeper after Rishabh Pant failed to attain match fitness. This will leave Abhimanyu Easwaran out. Both players had solid performances against Australia A.
Easwaran scored 44 runs off 58 balls in the first innings on September 17, while Jagadeesan impressed more with a 64-run knock off 113 balls, giving selectors something to think about. Even Manav Suthar is also in contention to earn his maiden India call-up. The left-arm spinner impressed the selectors with his impressive performance for India A against Australia A.
Meanwhile, India will be playing their first home series since Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin retired from Test cricket. The team has shown tremendous fighting spirit in England. But it will be interesting to see how the young Indian captain Shubman Gill adapts his captaincy and brings out the best from his players in the home conditions.
