Kirby Smart calls Alabama QB Ty Simpson ‘hottest quarterback’ in college football

by

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart labeled Alabama Crimson Tide starting quarterback Ty Simpson as the “hottest quarterback” in the nation.

“I would say he’s probably the hottest quarterback right now in all of college football,” said Smart on Simpson. “His two last outings, I don’t know, (if) I’ve seen an incompletion. The ball does not hit the ground. He’s been accurate. He’s been quick with the ball. They’re really hard to defend because of their skill. They’ve got tremendous skill, receivers, backs, tight ends. But you gotta have a trigger guy that can get those guys the ball, and they do.”

Simpson completed 24 out of 29 pass attempts for 382 yards and four touchdowns, while not throwing for an interception in Alabama‘s 38-14 win over Wisconsin. He has completed 71.9% of his pass attempts for 862 total yards and nine touchdowns, without throwing a single interception so far in this season. He also has one rushing TD this season. Simpson completed a perfect 17 of 17 passes and scored four total touchdowns in the Crimson Tide’s dominant 73-0 win over UL Monroe in Week 2. However, he did struggle in Alabama’s season-opening loss to Florida State.

Georgia‘s secondary will be tested with Simpson throwing to his targets like the dynamic receiver like Ryan Williams where he went for over 100 yards and scored two touchdowns against Wisconsin to help Alabama move to 2-1.

Another playmaker the Crimson Tide have is wide receiver Germie Bernard, who has been the most consistent and best receiver on this roster. This season, Bernard who has a team-best 275 receiving yards and three touchdowns has been a security blanket for Simpson.

Simpson will hope to get more production from his rushing attack, which has struggled this season. Alabama has failed to rush for over 100 yards twice this year (at Florida State and against Wisconsin). The Crimson Tide running game wil get a boost for the Georgia game.

Alabama running back Jam Miller is trending towards to returning for the primetime 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday game against the Bulldogs.

“I do,” said Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer on if he expects star running back Jam Miller to return for the Georgia game. “I do expect him to go. He practiced yesterday. Been building up (his volume at practice) last week, so I expect him to play.”

Miller is a third-team All-SEC pick, but as not played any this season. The senior posted a team-high (among running backs) 668 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns last season.
