India vs Pakistan final in Asia Cup could get cancelled; tensions escalate after Mohsin Naqvi’s tweet

by

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has finally scheduled a hearing for the complaints filed by the BCCI and the PCB amid escalating on-field agitations in the Asia Cup, leading to off-field tensions. They have also considered hearing PCB’s plea against Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav’s statements.

The India vs Pakistan matches in the Asia Cup have created more controversy than any game between the two rival nations in the last decade. The India-Pakistan rivalry has been escalated this much due to the controversial exchanges between the players.

“With @BCCI and @TheRealPCB filing official complaints against each other’s players and Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who incidentally also happens to be ACC chair, posting what he had on ‘X’, things are getting complicated before the final,” tweeted PTI reporter Kushan Sarkar.

ICC schedules a hearing for pleas made by BCCI and PCB

In the recent ongoing Asia Cup, the India vs Pakistan fiasco began with the no-handshake row in the first game, where Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav snubbed Pakistan players of the customary handshake after the end of the match.

This was followed by Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf’s obscene act, gesturing at the plane crash and mocking the Indian operation on the Pakistan territory. Further escalating the matter, Mohsin Naqvi used a controversial Cristiano Ronaldo reference to back Rauf’s actions.

The BCCI, as well as the PCB, has filed several complaints as well as counter-complaints to the ICC against each other’s players. The ICC has scheduled the hearing on the 25th of September.

How this dispute unfolds remains to be seen on Thursday. The ICC’s hearing on the BCCI’s complaint against Rauf’s gesture, as well as on opener Sahibzada Farhan’s celebration, will also be followed by the complaints from PCB.

Suryakumar Yadav faces major backlash amid form crisis in Asia Cup

According to the latest Dainik Jagran report, the match referee, Richie Richardson, had sent an email to the Indian team management in which he acknowledged receiving two official complaints from PCB. The two include Suryakumar Yadav’s post-match presentation speech and his press conference remarks.

The Indian captain’s post-match presentation words were only to pay tribute to the solidarity of the Indian soldiers who died in the war-like situation after the Pahalgam attack. He also said that even the snub of handshakes was the Indian team’s allies with the BCCI policy.

However, his press conference remarks might have hit a nerve in the Pakistani den, since he swerved from the claim of Pakistan being India’s rival any further in the game. He mocked the team, saying a neck-to-neck competition can be named a rivalry, but a 10-1 record can’t be.

Richie Richardson to adjudicate the complaint against the Indian skipper

Match referee Andy Pycroft will preside over the BCCI’s case on the PCB, and match referee Ritchie Richardson will adjudicate the complaint against the Indian skipper by the PCB.

Richardson’s email sent to the Indian management regarding the complaint on Suryakumar Yadav read, “The ICC has asked me to handle two reports lodged by the Pakistan Cricket Board regarding comments made by your captain, Suryakumar Yadav, during the presentation and post-match press conference after the India vs Pakistan match on September 14 2025. After examining the full reports and reviewing the evidence, I have concluded that a charge should be brought against Suryakumar Yadav for conduct that brings the game into dispute by making inappropriate comments, which are detrimental to the interest of the game.”

However, since Suryakumar has not accepted these allegations, a formal hearing is to be held, and Richardson further added that Suryakumar will have the opportunity to either accept the charge or face a formal hearing, which will include the ICC match referee, a BCCI, and a PCB representative.
