Disaster! Struggling UFC Perth card loses another fight due to illness

by

UFC Perth, scheduled for this Saturday (Sept. 28, 2025) from RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, is starting to look a whole lot more ordinary.

Admittedly, the quality of the card was never anything special in the first place, which is why the promotion is struggling to sell tickets. However, one notable detail about UFC Perth ahead of time was the card’s length. At one point early in the planning process, there were expected to be 16 fights on the card, which equates to nearly a full work day of face-punching.

Naturally, a few fights have fallen off since then, including the unfortunate cancellation of the co-main event less than a week ago. The bleeding didn’t stop there, however, as UFC announced earlier on Thursday that the Welterweight bout between Oban Elliott and Jonathan Micallef has been called off due to an illness to Elliott. The bout was originally scheduled for the “Prelims” portion of the card, and the promotion is not looking for a replacement for “The Welsh Gangster.”

Instead, the card will continue on with 13 bouts, a much more typical number.

It’s an unfortunate turn of events for Elliott, a hyped prospect who was looking to rebound from the first defeat of his Octagon career. Micallef, meanwhile, is still just 1-0 in the UFC, but the Australian up-and-comer was surely looking forward to putting on a show in front of his home country.
