US golfer Sam Burns reacts to Luke Donald’s comments about payments

by

Luke Donald caused fierce reactions with his comments a few days ago, with which he "poked" the American team in a way. This year's Ryder Cup differs from previous editions in that one of the teams will be paid to compete in this competition.

The leaders of the PGA of America decided to give a financial injection to their golfers. This did not meet with the sympathy of the public, which is partially frustrated by the fact that the players are motivated to perform for money.

However, one of the members of the American team, Sam Burns, reacted to Luke Donald's statements.

The European captain stressed that European golfers are motivated by something that money cannot buy.

Burns himself thanked the PGA of America, but emphasized that most of that money will be directed to charity.

“Yeah, to be honest, my personal opinion is I’m extremely grateful that the PGA of America is doing this. I live in a small town in Louisiana, and that amount of money in that community for those charities is going to go a long ways.

So for me personally, it’s going to have a huge impact on our community. I’m just extremely grateful that we get that opportunity.

I mean, to be honest, like for us, being able to steward that money in our own communities at home, I think that’s a great thing. And I think the PGA of America giving us the opportunity for us to do that is really special.“- he said, as quoted by The Golfing Gazette.

Charity

While it is clear that most of the money will go to charity, some are outraged that the players will still receive $200,000. It seems that the charity may also be serving as a cover for the rest of the money that the golfers will receive.

However, it remains to be seen whether the American players will be significantly motivated by money or whether it will have no role at this year's Ryder Cup.
