Las Vegas Aces superstar A’Ja Wilson was recently named the WNBA’s 2025 MVP, becoming the first player in the league’s history to win the award four times. With Wilson accomplishing something unprecedented, fans and the media are starting to create unique buzz around her.
Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade strongly believes that Wilson could finish her career as the greatest player in the WNBA’s history. According to D-Wade, A’ja still has a long way to go in her basketball career. However, if she keeps up her pace, there is no doubt that she will be “goated.”

“She’s a winner,”said Wade on his podcast. “Whenever you see her win something, you have to say, ‘Yes.” You’re never like “Really?” You never that way when it comes to her, cuz she is a dog. She gives everything. She’s a perfect superstar. She’s 29 years old. Obviously, she’s on the track to be the GOAT of the game. The accolades is going to go and speak, speak. But she got so much work to do. We let that GOAT conversation go until she’s done playing the game.”
She’s in a rare company
Wilson became the first player to become a four-time WNBA MVP and the first back-to-back MVP winner since Cynthia Cooper in 1997 and 1998. A’ja also joined Sheryl Swoopes as the only player in league history to win the MVP and the Defensive Player of the Year awards twice in the same season.

Overall, she’s won the DPOY award three times, has been named an All-Star seven times and All-WNBA six times. Wilson is also a five-time blocks leader and a two-time scoring champion, proving her two-way worth.
More importantly, she led the Aces to back-to-back WNBA championships in 2022 and 2023, plus the Commissioner’s Cup title in 2022. A’ja also joined NBA legends Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and LeBron James as the only players to win the NBA or WNBA award four times before turning 30.
“What she’s doing, she’s setting the bar so extremely high for so many future young ladies, young women who’s going to play this game, with not just winning MVPs, not just winning championships. But it’s really bro, how she represents herself is incredible. She’s a role model, not saying she’s trying to be one or not, she is. And if my daughter wants to be an athlete…if she’s doing a camp, she’s doing anything, go to A1 because she’s got it and she’s great,” added Wade.

In a league of her own
Aces head coach Becky Hammon is another Naismith Hall of Famer backing up A’ja’s GOAT status. And while she may be biased because they are on the same WNBA team, Hammon’s recent comments after Wilson won her fourth WNBA MVP award hit the nail on the head.
“People talk about who’s on your Mt. Rushmore. She’s on the Mt. Rushmore, but she’s also Everest. She’s at the peak and ain’t nobody else is up there. She’s the only one,” said Hammon after WNBA commissioner Cathy Englebert and A’ja’s boyfriend, Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo, brought the MVP trophy to the Aces’ practice facility. “This is four times. I said it earlier to the NBA. If you’re the best in the ‘W’ to ever do it, which obviously you are, it also makes you the best person on the planet and the best player on the planet.”

Right now, there’s no doubt that Wilson is already on the women’s Mt. Rushmore. But the fourth MVP puts her alone on top. If the Aces win again this season, we might not have to wait for A’ja to retire to crown her the women’s GOAT.
