FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Europe is on the verge of retaining the Ryder Cup after a dominant Saturday left it just 2.5 points from victory over the United States at Bethpage Black.
The Europeans took a 8.5-3.5 lead after Saturday morning foursomes, then won three of the four afternoon four-ball matches to seize an 11.5-4.5 lead.
Europe has won all four sessions through the opening two days and now just needs 2.5 points from Sunday’s 12 singles matches to win on American soil for the first time since 2012.
It’s the largest lead entering singles in European team history and the largest lead entering singles by any road team in Ryder Cup history.
