RWC 2027: Attention Turns to Brazil vs Paraguay Repechage Battle

by

Chile’s history-making win over Samoa in Viña del Mar achieved three things: (a) Chile qualified for Rugby World Cup 2027, (b) Samoa was sent to repechage and (c) only one spot now remains for Australia 2027. With this in mind attention moves from Viña del Mar to two other South American cities for the upcoming repechage battle between Brazil and Paraguay.

LAST CHANCE AUSTRALIA 2027 – REPECHAGE

The winner of the two-match-series between Brazil and Paraguay, on aggregate, will determine the last team for the repechage tournament. The RWC 2027 Final Qualification tournament will be held at the Sevens Stadium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) from November 08–18. The winner of the tournament will become the 24th and last team to qualify for Australia 2027.

Chile’s victory over Samoa saw the Pacific Island country becoming the third confirmed competitor for repechage. The first entrant was Belgium and the second was Namibia. Belgium earned the right to compete in repechage through European results, while Namibia defeated the UAE in an Africa 2 vs Asia 2 play-off.

The battle for Sudamérica 3 will be played on Saturday, October 11 and Saturday, October 18. Paraguay will have home advantage for the first match which will be played at the Estadio Heroes de Curupayty in Asunción. Brazil will host game two at the Estadio Nicolau Alayon in São Paulo.
