Preview: San Cristobal gears up for second Pan American Field Championships

by

Just over a week after the European Field Championships concluded in Walbrzych-Ksiaz, it is now the turn of the Americas to crown the continent’s best archers on the black and gold targets.

This is only the second edition of the Pan American Field Archery Championships, after Iguazú in 2023. The town of San Cristobal – nestled in the southern highlands of Mexico – welcomes more than 100 competitors across junior, master and senior categories, in recurve, compound, barebow, longbow and traditional bow events.

Field archery may not have the razzmatazz of target (yet), but the lure of ranking points has still attracted top contenders – including Marcus D’Almeida, the recurve men’s runner-up at the Gwangju 2025 Hyundai World Archery Championships.

The recent European Field Championships showed how career-defining this format can be. Compound men’s winner Mathias Fullerton climbed to world number one with his victory in Poland, overtaking ‘Mister Perfect’ Mike Schloesser. D’Almeida will be eager to showcase his versatility too – albeit in recurve.
