Well-known college basketball statistician Evan Miyakawa seems to really like the roster that Mark Pope has built for his second season in Lexington.
Miyakawa’s advanced analytics system has Kentucky ranked 10th in the nation heading into the season.

Miyakawa’s system has Kentucky ranked 9th defensively and 16th in offensive efficiency. Based on these analytics, Kentucky will once again face a gauntlet in the SEC with seven teams in the conference ranked in the top 25.
That includes Florida at #4, Tennessee at #15, Alabama at #16, Arkansas at #20, Vanderbilt at #24, and Auburn at #25.
Houston ranks at the top, with Purdue just behind. Duke comes in at #3 and Michigan rounds out the top 5. Connecticut, Arizona, BYU, and Illinois come in ahead of Kentucky. UCLA, Gonzaga, Iowa State, and St. John’s come in just behind the Wildcats.
Kentucky’s defense will get an early test with the exhibition game against Purdue, as Miyakawa has Purdue as the top-ranked team in offensive efficiency headed into the season. That exhibition is just a little over three weeks away.

It seems as if the analytics like the team Kentucky has built. Soon enough, we’ll see how this team comes together on the court.
