The college football world was stunned following Friday night’s ACC clash between the No. 8 Florida State Seminoles and the Virginia Cavaliers.
In front of a packed Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, the Cavaliers pulled off the 46-38 upset in double overtime. The win gave Virginia its first victory against a top 10 opponent since 2005, when it beat No. 4 Florida State. It also gave the Cavaliers its second straight 4-1 start, making it the first time since the 2003-04 seasons.

As a result of the victory, which was sealed with Florida State’s Tommy Castellanos being picked off by Ja’son Prevard, Virginia fans immediately stormed the field.
While it was all in good fun, the fans rushing onto the field did cost the university.

The ACC released a statement on Sunday revealing that Virginia was fined $50,000 for violating the conference’s rules on storming the field.
“In accordance with ACC policy, Virginia will incur a fine of $50,000 for a first offense,” read the statement.

While it is technically a punishment, the ACC also revealed that the fines go to a scholarship fund for athletes pursuing a graduate degree.
“All fines collected under the policy are directed to the Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship Fund, which benefits ACC student-athletes pursuing graduate education,” said the ACC.
For Virginia, they will make the trip to Kentucky next week as they are set to take on Louisville (4-0). As for the Seminoles, they’ll be hosting No. 2 Miami.
