Carlos Alcaraz lifted his eighth ATP trophy of the season in Tokyo after besting world no. 5 Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4. Thus, the Spaniard extended his brilliant run since April and claimed the seventh title from nine straight finals.
While doing well on the court, Carlos found himself in a tense moment with chair umpire Fergus Murphy in the early stages of the duel. World no. 1 received a time violation in the fourth game after an extended rally.
Clearly frustrated, Carlos held but than missed three break points in the next one. During the changeover, Alcaraz approached the umpire for clarification, visibly upset by what he felt was an unfair call.

The Spaniard explained the situation once again and finished by saying to Murphy that he never played tennis in his life. World no. 1 quickly refocused and clinched the opening set with a late break in the ninth game.
Carlos played another great match and dropped serve once while already building a massive lead. Taylor could not provide another win over the young gun after besting him at the Laver Cup.
The American struggled with a left thing injury, requiring a medical timeout and losing ground early in the second set. World no. 5 experienced a double break and found himself 5-1 behind.
Taylor fought back and pulled one break back in game eight to extend the duel and his chances. The 2022 champion held in game nine and reduced the gap to 5-4.

However, Alcaraz kept his composure and landed a drop shot winner on serve in game ten, sealing the deal in style and celebrating his eighth trophy of a career-best season.
"Do you think it's normal that I finish a long point at the net and barely have time to go for the balls, with no time to rest? Do you think it's normal or not? You have not played tennis in your life, come on.
You never played tennis because you said this is normal," Carlos Alcaraz said.
