At 14.6 overs, Deepti executed a perfectly planned delivery to Athapaththu, ending the batter’s 43-run innings from 47 balls, which included 4 fours and 3 sixes. India’s strategy of bowling around the wicket, full, flat, and quick finally paid off. Athapaththu attempted to play an onside whip but completely missed the delivery and the stumps rattled immediately. The wicket was a massive breakthrough, reducing Sri Lanka to 82/2 and breaking a potentially dangerous partnership.

Deepti’s fierce roar after the dismissal signaled not just personal triumph but the team’s collective intensity, sending a psychological jolt to the opposition. The precision of the delivery, combined with the pre-planned setup, reflected India’s meticulous planning against key batters. This breakthrough invigorated the Indian fielders, who rallied around Deepti with cheers and applause. The crowd erupted as Deepti raised her fist in celebration, epitomizing the competitive spirit of the Women in Blue. The dismissal shifted momentum decisively, giving India the upper hand in controlling the Sri Lankan chase.

India bowlers maintained relentless pressure on Sri Lanka during the chase of 271, making early inroads into the visitors’ top order. Hasini Perera was dismissed for 14 by Kranti Goud in the sixth over, setting the tone for India’s disciplined attack. Athapaththu, the Sri Lankan captain, fell to Deepti  for 43, unable to counter the precise lines and lengths executed by the Indian all-rounder. Harshitha Samarawickrama tried to stabilize the innings but was trapped lbw by Shree Charani for 29, leaving Sri Lanka at 103/3.

Vishmi Gunaratne followed shortly after, bowled out by Amanjot Kaur for 11, compounding Sri Lanka’s struggles. Kavisha Dilhari added only 15 before Deepti struck again, and Anushka Sanjeewani’s brief innings ended at six, also courtesy of Deepti’s clever bowling. India’s spin duo of Deepti and Shree Charani effectively choked the middle order, while pace options Kranti and Amanjot provided breakthroughs upfront.  With Sri Lanka needing 131 runs from the remaining 18 overs and six wickets down, India held complete control over the contest.
