ESPN “College GameDay” host Rece Davis released his AP ballot after Week 5. With his position on College GameDay, it’s intriguing to see how he votes every week. This week, he made one big change in his college football rankings.
The Ole Miss Rebels emerge into the top 10 of his ballot, rising to No. 6 from No. 22. The Rebels earned the honor after defeating the No. 13 LSU Tigers at home 24-19. Ole Miss backup quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has been steady, and the defense held Garrett Nussmeier and the LSU offense to just 254 total yards. The Rebels now have three SEC wins (Kentucky, Arkansas, LSU), improving their odds at a College Football Playoff spot in 2025.

Indiana (No. 7) and Alabama (No. 9) also climb into the top 10 of Davis’ ballot. Indiana remains unbeaten after defeating Iowa 20-15 with a late touchdown. Alabama deserves significant recognition after winning on the road against Georgia 24-21. That win vanquished Georgia’s 33-game winning streak at home.
The Georgia Bulldogs still stays in the top 10, falling down to No. 10. However, Penn State (No. 11), LSU (No. 12), and Texas (No. 13) each fall out of the top 10. Penn State came up short against Oregon (No. 3) in a 30-24 double overtime loss, and LSU couldn’t defeat Ole Miss on the road, but Texas was just on bye. Texas’s demotion is more about other teams (Ole Miss, Alabama) looking better or winning against more impressive competition.
Florida State sticks out on the rankings. Rece Davis ranks them No. 8, which is 10 places over where the Seminoles are actually ranked at No. 18. The Seminoles also lost on the road at Virginia in double overtime 46-38. Perhaps Davis believes that the matchup between Florida State and Miami (No. 1) will bring national respect back to the Seminoles, even though Davis and College GameDay won’t be there to see it.
