Iowa women’s basketball assistant says ‘stay tuned’ after big commit

by

Following the excitement over McKenna Woliczko’s commitment to the Iowa women’s basketball program on Wednesday morning, Hawkeyes assistant coach LaSondra Barrett posted a message on social media that has many fans eager to hear about the team’s next major recruiting win.

Barrett was hired by the Hawkeyes this past April from Georgia Tech to serve in the same role she had with the Yellow Jackets, as Iowa replaced a departing Raina Harmon, who left for the head coaching role at Florida Gulf Coast.

Given Barrett’s impactful role in Iowa’s recruiting, her message conveys a confident tone regarding the program’s potential on the court and its prospects for attracting even more high-end stars.

“It’s a GREAT day to be a Hawkeye… Stay tuned, we are just getting started,” Barrett wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

With Woliczko now the first of the Hawkeyes’ 2026 commitments, Barrett hopes the national stature of the No. 6 overall recruit can attract some of Iowa’s other top prospects, such as five-stars Addison Bjorn and Jenica Lewis and four-star Vienna Murray.

As Barrett and many other players said on Wednesday, it’s a great time to be a Hawkeye.
