Reigning National Champs Virginia, Texas Atop Opening CSCAA Polls

Reigning NCAA champions Virginia and Texas are atop the opening CSCAA dual-meet polls released on Thursday.

The first poll of the season, as voted on by national Division I committees, ranks teams for head-to-head dual meet championships.

Five-time reigning womenโ€™s champion Virginia collected 424 points to lead the womenโ€™s poll. Texas was second, just ahead of Stanford. The Cardinal had edged the Longhorns to second place at NCAAs last year.

Tennessee was fourth, with California fifth. A total of 35 teams hailing from six conferences received votes. The top 10 in the preseason poll are the same 10 schools that finished in the top 10 at NCAAs last year, with the biggest seeding difference being Indiana in ninth this year after finishing fourth last season in Federal Way, Washington.

On the menโ€™s side, Texas took home every first-place vote to tally 400 points. Indiana is second, followed by Arizona State in third. California, which finished second last year and has finished in the top two every year since 2010, was voted fourth in a tie with Florida. The biggest drop among the top 10 is Virginia Tech, which finished 10th at NCAAs last year and was voted 17th.
