Kirk Herbstreit ranks the five best college football teams entering Week 6

ESPN “College GameDay” analyst and college football expert Kirk Herbstreit ranked his top five college football teams ahead of Week 6. Three of Herbstreit’s top five teams lost last week.

Herbstreit’s top team, the LSU Tigers, lost at the Ole Miss Rebels 24-19. His No. 2 team, the Penn State Nittany Lions, lost 30-24 in overtime to the Oregon Ducks. His No. 5 team, the Georgia Bulldogs, fell to the Alabama Crimson Tide 24-21 to snap UGA’s 33-game home winning streak. All three of those teams are now gone from Herbstreit’s top five rankings.

Entering Week 6, Herbstreit has the Ohio State Buckeyes as his new No. 1 team. The Buckeyes have strong wins over Texas and Washington.

“I feel like with (freshman quarterback) Julian Sayin, they’re leaning on their defense and let’s play high percentage pass game,” Herbstreit said. “Let’s not lose it with a young quarterback who’s gaining confidence each week.”

Herbstreit does not have Oregon ranked far behind Ohio State and considers it to be “like 1A and 1B” at the top of his rankings.
