The 2025 WNBA Finals are officially here. Welcome to the best time of the year!
It all boils down to some of the best teams in the league, the Phoenix Mercury and the Las Vegas Aces, who will compete for a chance at postseason glory during the league’s first best-of-seven finals series. Six-time All-Star Alyssa Thomas leads a stacked Mercury roster, which also includes star forward Satou Sabally and Kahleah Copper.

The league’s 2025 MVP, A’ja Wilson, leads the Aces with star guards Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray. Both teams are looking to add more hardware to their championship trophy cases, including the third in four seasons for Las Vegas.
With this in mind, it’s time for our staff to share their expert finals predictions. Here’s how we see the 2025 WNBA Finals playing out:

Why will the team win a WNBA championship?

Bryan Kalbrosky: Defense wins championships, and no team in the WNBA has a better defensive rating in the postseason than the Mercury this year. This is the first time the WNBA Finals can go to seven games, and I think it goes the distance.
Cory Woodroof: A’ja Wilson is on a mission, and I have a feeling she plays her best basketball of the season in this year’s Finals. When you have the best women’s basketball player on Earth, you can beat a team as complete as Phoenix.
Prince Grimes: Not many teams gave the Mercury trouble in the regular season, but the Aces were one of the two teams with winning records against Phoenix. With home-court advantage in a potential Game 7, I’ll roll with A’ja Wilson and co. to get it done for yet another championship.

Meghan Hall: This will probably be the ugliest and grittiest win in the Aces’ dynasty. It’s not easy to win three championships in four seasons. I think they take home another ring due to the team’s overall experience and poise in those moments. Plus, it’s hard to pick against A’ja Wilson when it comes to winning anything. Here’s my chance to hopefully get it right. (Also, perhaps the basketball gods knew about my preseason Aces championship prediction and gifted Las Vegas the opportunity to fulfill it and make me look like a genius. Admittedly, it was plenty spicy, but what if it actually wasn’t?)

Bryan Kalbrosky: As one of the most well-rounded and versatile players in the league with a ridiculous assist percentage, she is going to shine in this big moment. She already leads the league in clutch scoring during the postseason and expect that to continue

Meghan Hall: This is a dark-horse pick, but Jackie Young has been quietly so good all season and so timely in the playoffs, often making big shots and timely plays when no one else can. It wouldn’t surprise me if she does more of the same in the Finals and gets some hardware that she would be so deserving of.
