There has been a lot of speculation about Alberto Del Rio possibly going back to WWE after his AAA exit and fans have constantly chanted his name during the WWE x AAA shows. While it’s not known if he’ll return to WWE, Del Rio has now addressed fans chanting his name.
While speaking to Eduardo Bates, Alberto Del Rio talked about fans chanting his name during the WWE x AAA events and how some have turned against El Hijo Del Vikingo.
Del Rio said that no one can control the fans because they have the right to cheer or boo whoever they want. Social media, the internet and TV can spread opinions quickly; some people share honestly, while others just want attention, likes or views.
“Well, that’s something nobody can decide for the fans. The fans love or hate whoever they want. Social media, the internet, television—they just spread it. Some do it truthfully, others just want likes, views, or a bit of relevance for a week. We are the protagonists, the ones who step into the ring to give our all.”
Del Rio explained that wrestlers are the ones who step into the ring and give everything they have. Alberto added that he has a lot of respect for El Hijo Del Vikingo, calling him a talented wrestler and a bright future star in the business.
However, he said that it’s the fans who felt disappointed or betrayed, not him. Alberto made it clear that he just focuses on doing his job in the ring and letting the audience decide how they feel.
“I have nothing but respect for El Hijo del Vikingo. He’s a great wrestler, a great prospect for our business, someone who will go far. But the fans were the ones who felt unsatisfied, who felt deceived or betrayed. I just go out and do my job. It’s like Maximus says in Gladiator: “I have the fortune to look my enemy in the eye and decide my destiny.” The rest—you, the fans—decide.”
This comes after Rey Mysterio promised to bring back Alberto Del Rio after listening to fans chanting his name during TripleMania this year. Some fans have even launched a petition for WWE to bring back Mexico’s Greatest Export.
However, it is to be noted that Alberto Del Rio’s WWE return is in limbo despite WWE inheriting Del Rio’s AAA deal after their takeover. So only time will tell what the future holds for Del Rio, as it’s clear WWE might not be in his immediate future.
