Mississippi State lost a second in-state commitment in its 2026 class on Monday as D’Iberville (Miss.) three-star linebacker Caleb Triplett announced that he’s reopened his recruitment.
He joins Pascagoula three-star safety Tomareo Johnson, who also announced his decommitment from the Bulldogs after originally pledging this summer. Triplett chose MSU on June 22.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Triplett is the No. 112 LB and No. 38 player in Mississippi in the 2026 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 1,262 recruit overall.
Head coach Jeff Lebby and the Bulldogs picked up a pledge from Triplett after he took an official visit to Starkville on the weekend of June 20. The SEC program stands as his lone reported Power Four offer. Arkansas State and Jackson State are others that have previously offered.
Playing for one of the top high school football programs in Mississippi, Triplett missed the first half of his senior season due to injury, but he returned to the gridiron over the weekend. D’Iberville is 6-0 and ranks as the No. 9 team in the state, per the Massey Ratings.

Despite a competitive 4-2 start to the season, Mississippi State hasn’t picked up much steam on the recruiting trail.

At the end of September, State also lost a commitment from Magnolia (Miss.) South Pike Rivals300 EDGE Micah Nickerson, who flipped to Missouri. Last week also saw MSU lose out on a commitment from Theodore (Ala.) four-star linebacker JJ Bush, a former Arkansas pledge who chose Mizzou despite trending toward Starkville in the days leading up to his decision.
Mississippi State now has seven in-state commits in its class, headlined by Grenada four-star tight end Zayion Cotton, the lone blue-chipper in the fold. Cotton checks in as the No. 382 recruit and No. 21 tight end in the cycle. Vancleave three-star offensive tackle Dalton Toothman, Macon Noxubee County three-star athlete Jaiden Taylor, Canton three-star wide receiver Jayden Cration and Tupelo three-star running back Jaeden Hill are all committed and are all top-25 players in Mississippi this cycle.
The class now ranks No. 55 in the nation, according to the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. That ranks next-to-last in the SEC, ahead of just Arkansas, which has seen mass exodus following the firing of head coach Sam Pittman. The entire MSU class can be seen here.
