After completing her 2025 WNBA rookie season with the Washington Mystics, the franchise released a fascinating feature story about the background of former Iowa women’s basketball star Lucy Olsen’s trademarked ‘Basketball Is Fun’ brand in the team’s “Inner Circle” magazine on Saturday.
Olsen, who was selected by the Mystics with the No. 23 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA draft after spending three seasons at Villanova and her final year with Iowa, recently developed and launched a website for her brand, offering a variety of merchandise items for purchase.

Despite playing the majority of the season off the bench for the Mystics, the energetic former Hawkeye continues to spread her love for the game, regardless of the situation.
According to the feature story, Olsen’s brand started as a simple response to a question posed to the star during her freshman year at Villanova, to which she replied, “Basketball is fun.”
After evolving as a player throughout her following two seasons with the Wildcats and lone campaign with the Hawkeyes, Olsen’s constant light-hearted nature completely embodied the once sarcastic response as a battle cry for the growth and development of women’s basketball at the youth level.

As Olsen currently stars for the Townsville Fire in the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) in Australia during the WNBA’s lengthy off-season, she still maintains her distinctive joyous and loving spirit for the game of basketball, both on and off the court.
