Lacey Lane didn’t waste any time clapping back at critics following her AEW debut on the October 7 edition of AEW Dynamite: Title Tuesday.
The former WWE star, previously known as Kayden Carter, made her first appearance under the AEW banner when she answered Mercedes Moné’s open challenge for the TBS Championship at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville.
While many fans were excited to see her, some online claimed her new name “Lacey Lane” sounded too similar to WWE NXT’s Jacy Jayne — and accused her of copying it. Lane wasn’t having any of it.
A day after her debut, she took to Twitter to shut down the comparisons by posting a screenshot from WWE’s official Facebook page dating back to July 29, 2018, showing that she had already used the Lacey Lane name years ago when she first joined WWE. Along with the post, she added a direct message to the critics.
“For the idiots out there 😂 2018.”
The tweet quickly made its point clear — Lane didn’t copy anyone. She was simply reclaiming a name that she had long before her WWE run as Kayden Carter.
Lacey Lane’s AEW appearance marked her official transition from Ring of Honor, where she had competed earlier this year, to the main AEW roster. Though she came up short against Mercedes Moné, the debut made it clear she’s ready to start a new chapter in her career — on her own terms.
