Wisconsin Badgers women’s basketball adds Evan Johnston as assistant coach, Robin Pingeton says

ROSEMONT, Ill. — Wisconsin women’s basketball has hired Evan Johnston as an assistant coach, head coach Robin Pingeton said at Big Ten basketball media days.

Johnston arrives with the Badgers after two years at Arkansas, where he held titles of video coordinator and special assistant to the head coach/director of video on Mike Neighbors’ staff. Before that, he was a graduate assistant under Pingeton at Missouri in 2022-23 and a student manager and practice player at Arkansas from 2018-22.

Johnston is not the only one on Pingeton’s staff to have previously worked with her. UW associate head coach Chris Bracey came with Pingeton from Missouri, where he was on staff for seven of Pingeton’s 15 seasons there. Assistant coach McGhee Mann was on staff in her last season, as was graduate assistant Adam Urlaub.

Wisconsin’s one other assistant coach is Ariel Massengale, who played for Pat Summitt at Tennessee and had coaching stints at Lipscomb and SIUE.

Pingeton believes she has “surrounded myself with really, really high IQ coaches and just incredible human beings.”

“We always say we want to compete for championships and be invited to weddings,” Pingeton said of her 2025-26 coaching staff. “And so we all align in that space. We want to help them to be the best that they can be in all areas of their life. We want to challenge them, but we also want to support them.”

Wisconsin director of athletics Chris McIntosh and Robin Pingeton, the Badgers new women’s basketball coach, share the dais during her introductory press conference Tuesday April 1 at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin.
