The Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars have swapped cornerbacks.
The Jaguars sent Tyson Campbell to the Browns on Wednesday night in exchange for Greg Newsome, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The two teams also swapped late-round 2026 draft picks as part of the deal.

The Browns selected Newsome with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Northwestern. He has 23 total tackles and five pass breakups this season, his fifth in the league. The 25-year-old is playing on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract this fall, and he’ll become a free agent next March.
Campbell is also in his fifth season in the league, though he signed a four-year, $76.5 million extension before the 2024 season. He has 34 total tackles, six pass breakups and a forced fumble this season in Jacksonville.

Newsome will presumably slide in and join Jarrian Jones in the Jaguars’ secondary once he’s ready to start, though it’s unclear if he’ll be ready to go for the team’s matchup with the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. He’ll join former Colorado star Travis Hunter in the cornerbacks room. The Jaguars traded up to select Hunter in a deal with the Browns during the NFL Draft earlier this year.
Campbell will join Denzel Ward in the Browns’ starting lineup. The trade Wednesday night was one of just several moves the team has made in recent days. They also landed left tackle Cam Robinson from the Houston Texans and sent quarterback Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals after opting to start rookie Dillon Gabriel instead last weekend.

The Browns are 1-4 heading into Sunday’s matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. While they still have plenty of issues to solve as a team to start winning again, Campbell should be a solid piece for the Browns secondary for years to come.
