Duke Women and Men Dominant in Dual Meet Against Davidson

Duke University’s swimming and diving programs hosted in-state competitor Davidson Friday afternoon in Durham, N.C., and easily came out on top. The Duke women, fueled by three victories from senior Audrey Portello, scored 237 points to Davidson’s 59 while winning every event contested. The men’s meet was tighter early, but Duke emerged with a comfortable 203-96 triumph.

The Blue Devils’ Ali PfaffKaelyn GridleyMartina Peroni and Tatum Wall cruised to first place in the 400 medley relay in 3:38.84. Gridley had an individual win in the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.30, followed by Peroni sweeping the butterfly events, with times of 2:01.41 in the 200 and 55.69 in the 100. Wall got the job done in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.05, and Pfaff was victorious in the 200 back (1:57.20).

Portello topped the 1000 free in 10:06.56, and she returned to grab a win in the 200 breast (2:18.35). Her third victory came in the 400 IM (4:20.77). A trio of Duke freshmen led the way in the 200 free, with Heather White getting the win in 1:51.30. White picked up another top finish in the 100 free (50.69) while Tierney Lenahan went 54.15 to top the 100 backstroke.

Neala Klein was the winner of the 500 free (5:04.80), and diver Keira Lu swept 1-meter (323.78) and 3-meter (348.38). Lenahan, Clare LoganKate Meyers-Labenz and Claire McLean picked up first place in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:34.34.

The men’s meet saw Gus KohJack SmithJustin Wong and Milo Shue dominate the 400 medley relay in 3:19.60. Smith came through for first in the 100 breast (55.65) while Shue won the 50 free (20.45). Colin Mikulecky came in first in the 100 free (45.88), and Cade Anderson topped the field in the 200 back (1:50.17).

Raphael Wang got the better of the competition in the 200 breast (2:01.12), and Samir Elkassem dominated the 100 fly (49.83). Rounding out the individual swimming competition with a win was Owen Markowitz in the 400 IM (4:04.63) while diving wins went to Charlie Berman (1-meter, 348.68) and Yannis Schattman (3-meter, 402.00). Shue, Owen WaibelAlex Meyers-Labenz and Wong combined for a time of 1:21.00 to win the 200 free relay.

Davidson’s Henry Shoemaker was the winner of the 1000 free in 9:33.13 while teammate Dylan Felt topped the 200-yard race in 1:38.52. Felt came back later to pick up first in the 500 free (4:32.84). Liam McDonough followed up with a top result in the 100 back (50.82). Fletcher Smith was the top finisher in the 200 fly (1:51.24).
