The Blue Jays have named righty Kevin Gausman as their starter for Game 1 of the American League Championship Series against the Mariners on Sunday.
Gausman (10-11, 3.59 ERA) made one start in the AL Division Series against the Yankees, allowing one run over 5 2/3 innings to earn the win in Game 1. He made one appearance against the Mariners this season, picking up a win on May 9 after allowing three earned runs over 5 1/3 innings. Lifetime against Seattle, he’s 2-4 with a 2.94 ERA in 12 appearances.
Though he finished the regular season with consecutive outings in which he allowed four earned runs, Gausman’s ALDS start was more in line with his early September performances. He allowed a total of two runs over his first three starts of the month, which included a complete-game shutout against the Astros on Sept. 11.
Over his career in the postseason, Gausman is 1-2 with a 4.31 ERA in 31 1/3 innings dating to 2014.
