Obama Hails A’ja Wilson, Aces After Third WNBA Title

A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces won the 2025 WNBA Finals against the Phoenix Mercury on Friday night, clinching the championship for the third time in franchise history, drawing congratulations from former President Barack Obama.

The Aces swept Phoenix 4-0 in the series to bring the title back to Las Vegas. Wilson’s performances were pivotal in helping the team claim the crown.

Wilson became the first player in WNBA or NBA history to win the scoring title, league MVP, Defensive Player of the Year and Finals MVP in the same season, according to ESPN.

Obama Praises Aces After Championship Win

Following the 97-86 victory at PHX Arena, former Obama congratulated Wilson and the team.

Obama posted on X on Saturday, writing: “Congratulations to the WNBA champs — @LVAces and MVP A’ja Wilson — on their third title!”

Wilson was dominant throughout the Finals, posting 31 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three blocks in the series clincher against the Mercury. The historic achievement caps an impressive season for Las Vegas and Wilson, who was also named to the 2025 All-WNBA First Team.
