UFC Rio fighter returns after 28-month layoff to nail slick armbar

by

Luan Lacerda hadn’t fought in two years when he stepped in the UFC cage Saturday, but you wouldn’t have guessed that from his performance.

At UFC Fight Night 261, Lacerda (13-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) tapped Saimon Oliveira (18-7 MMA, 0-4 UFC) with a slick armbar for a stoppage at the 3:55 mark of Round 2 at Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro.

Lacerda didn’t let Oliveira’s large weight miss Friday effect the outcome, as he put forth a dominant Round 1 before he got the job done in Round 2.

The win snapped a two-fight skid for Lacerda, who had not fought since June 2023. Oliveira is likely looking at the UFC door after his fourth loss in as many promotional outings – and the weight miss, which cost him 50 percent of his fight purse after he missed the bantamweight limit by 8 pounds.

Up-to-the-minute UFC Fight Night 261 results include:

  • Luan Lacerda def. Saimon Oliveira via submission (armbar) – Round 1, 3:55
