Shreyas Iyer sent “Hang in there” message as Ajit Agarkar continues to mistreat him

by

Former Indian batter Mohammad Kaif advised Shreyas Iyer to hang in there with the Indian team, as he has comforted him, saying that a T20 national call-up is around the corner. Shreyas Iyer has been picked only in the ODI format as of now.

Indian batter Shreyas Iyer captained the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024 and led them to their third title; he was then bought for a whopping 26.75 Crores by the Punjab Kings. Shreyas went on to lead the Punjab Kings to their second IPL final after 11 years, since 2014, when they were defeated in the final.

Shreyas scored 600+ runs himself in the 2025 edition of the IPL; however, despite his great performances, he was not picked in India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025 and has also been snubbed of a chance to feature in the five-match T20I series against Australia.

Shreyas Iyer asked to “Hang in there” by a former Indian batter

Iyer emerged as India’s most likely batter across all white-ball formats, and it is unclear why he finds himself out of favor when it comes to the shortest format of the game. He was recently named in the ODI squad for the Australian tour, but is yet to be handed a spot in the T20I side.

Mohammed Kaif, the former Indian batter, has once again drawn everyone’s attention towards the Punjab Kings skipper, mentioning his class across formats. He mentioned how Iyer started off his Test career with a century on debut and his marvelous campaign in the 2023 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy for India.

“Great to catch up with Shreyas Iyer. What a player. Hundred on Test debut, 2023 ODI World Cup hero, only captain to lead 3 IPL teams to final. T20 national call-up too will come, Hang in there, a great future awaits you, Shreyas,” Kaif wrote on X.

Shreyas Iyer appointed Shubman Gill’s deputy for the Australia tour

For the upcoming series against Australia, no one can look past the fact that he has once again been snubbed of a chance in the Indian T20I side; however, the good news is that Iyer has been announced as Shubman Gill’s deputy in the ODI team.

The new Indian ODI vice-captain had recently captained India A in their 3-match unofficial ODI series against Australia A. Iyer also scored a breathtaking hundred in the very first match alongside Priyansh Arya.

India’s next T20I series will be at home against the World Cup runners-up, South Africa, later in December. Shreyas Iyer might be eyeing a spot in the team for the home matches later this year.

Shreyas had sidelined himself from the longest format of the game

Recently, in the last month, Shreyas Iyer had written to the BCCI asking the board not to consider him for selection in the longest format of the game. After Karun Nair’s snub, Iyer was probably on the cards of the Indian selectors for a Test comeback.

He was also named the skipper of the India A red-ball team that played against Australia A; however, the seasoned batter revealed that his body is currently not in the condition to take the load of five-day matches.
