Another Penn State player has reopened their recruitment, however, this in-state commit is a different situation.
Four-star safety commit Matt Sieg announced that he’s reopening his recruiting process, but is staying committed to the current coaching staff. Sieg is opening the process back up due to the uncertainty after the firing of James Franklin.
Sieg committed on Nov. 2, 2024, before gaining multiple offers from other nationally ranked programs.

The 5-foot-11-inch safety is a four-star recruit ranked as the No. 172 player in the country. He’s rated as the No. 16 safety in the country and the No. 5 player in Pennsylvania.
Despite being a safety recruit, Sieg is also the quarterback at Fort Cherry. During his senior season, he broke the all-time WPIAL touchdown and total yards record.
Sieg is the second player in the Class of 2026 to reopen his commitment, with Lavar Keys completely decommitting from the program on Sunday.
In addition to Sieg, two more players reopened their commitments, but remained committed to the Nittany Lions.
Three-star defensive linemen Tavien Branch and Isaac Chukwurah both announced that they’re reopening their commitments.

Branch committed on Sept. 6, 2025, at halftime of his visit. The Taylor, Pennsylvania, native is the No. 557 player in the country, the No. 68 defensive lineman and No. 15 player in Pennsylvania.
Chukwurah committed on April, 22, 2025. The Bear, Delaware, native is the No. 506 player in the country, the No. 58 defensive lineman and the No. 2 player in Delaware.
Both players were seen as high-upside guys who could develop into starting positions with the Nittany Lions.
As of right now, under interim coach Terry Smith, all three defensive recruits remain committed to the blue and white, but are reopened to other colleges.
