With the start of the women’s college basketball season quickly approaching, the Associated Press has released its preseason poll. For the Texas Longhorns, it represented a reason to celebrate. After one of their best seasons in recent memory, the Longhorns are ranked No.4 heading into the 2025-2026 campaign.
Texas now finds itself in familiar territory on the eve of the regular season. The Longhorns started the 2024-2025 campaign ranked No.4 and were in the top-five in 17 of 21 weeks. During that stretch, they were ranked No.1 for two weeks for the first time in 21 years.
As the Longhorns were one of the best teams in the nation last year, they rewrote the record books. They won a program record 35 games. Their success didn’t stop in the regular season as Texas advanced to the Final Four for the first time in 22 years. In conference play, they were nearly perfect with a 15-1 record.

With expectations higher than ever, the Longhorns will be led by some of the best players in the nation. That includes Madison Booker, who was the 2025 SEC player of the year. She was also named the preseason SEC Player of the Year for the 2025-26 season. She will be able to rely on Rori Harmon and Jordan Lee.
Although the roster will have some new faces, the Longhorns have a veteran core that knows how to win. That was on display last year, regardless of the opponent. While they will enter the season with a target on their backs, this team is full of talent and ready to win a national championship.
