Wes Schultz pulled off a Dana White’s Contender Series first Tuesday as he became a sure-thing for a UFC contract.
At DWCS 86, the LFA alum Schultz (8-2) submitted Cage Warriors alum Mario Mingaj (7-1) with a Suloev stretch at 1:51 of Round 1.
The submission, which has only been pulled off three times in the UFC (by Kenny Robertson, Zabit Magomesharipov, and Aljamain Sterling respectively), had never been successfully completed in the DWCS until Tuesday.
Schultz, 29, makes the most of his second DWCS opportunity. He competed on the series in 2024 when he was finished by Mansur Abdul-Malik.
Italy’s Mingaj loses for the first time as a professional. He hadn’t competed in 11 months prior to Tuesday’s fight.
