One step forward, three steps back.
Florida’s Week 7 loss to the Texas A&M Aggies sent the Gators down to No. 47 in the weekly rerank by The Athletic.
That’s between a 5-1 Houston Cougars team and a 4-2 Arizona Wildcats squad. Billy Napier’s 2-4 team is ranked higher than Dabo Swinney’s No. 50 Clemson Tigers (3-3). The strength of the schedule has kept Florida from a complete collapse in these sorts of exercises, but another big win is needed to recover the significant ground already lost.

The Gators entered 2025 ranked No. 15 in the country, but losses to South Florida and LSU dropped the Orange and Blue to No. 50 overall. The low point (so far) came during the bye week, when Florida fell to No. 55 in the rerank. Week 6 brought a win against Texas in the Swamp and an 11-spot jump.
Five SEC teams inside the top 10
Indiana moves into the top spot this week after upsetting Oregon. The Hooisers replace Miami (No. 3 this week) and leapfrog No. 2 Ohio State. While the very top of the college football world may not belong to the SEC, the conference is well-represented.
The Texas A&M Aggies moved up to No. 4 after beating Florida, followed by the No. 5 Alabama Crimson Tide. The Ole Miss Rebels and Georgia Bulldogs occupy the Nos. 7 and 8 spots, with the LSU Tigers rounding out the top 10.

A number of SEC teams are just outside that threshold, with the Tennessee Volunteers, Missouri Tigers and Oklahoma Sooners at Nos. 11-13, respectively. The Vanderbilt Commodores are also lurking at No. 16 this week.
Seven teams from the conference find themselves outside of the top 25 this week. The Texas Longhorns are up 12 spots to No. 27, which is good for Florida’s strength of record and schedule. Florida’s upcoming opponent, the Mississippi State Bulldogs, is also trending up, moving to No. 31 from No. 34 with a 4-2 record.
The Auburn Tigers fell to No. 36 this week, and South Carolina is down six to No. 42. The No. 66 Kentucky Wildcats and No. 68 Arkansas Razorbacks remain the only two teams below No. 47 Florida.
