As Iowa held its annual media day just weeks before the 2025-26 college basketball season begins, members of the media shared a first look of what will eventually be the Hawkeyes’ newest baseline portion of the student section.
As revealed over the offseason, the new student seating arrangement features riser platforms that are expected to hold around 200 people for both men’s and women’s basketball and wrestling.

Previously, students were seated far behind the south baseline due to the oval-shaped seating configuration of Carver-Hawkeye Arena. This addition will enhance the in-game atmosphere for students, bringing them closer to the action and providing additional floor-level concession opportunities.
The first opportunity for students to use the baseline seating section will be on Oct. 30, when the women’s program plays its lone exhibition contest against Division II-level Ashland.
“I think we’ve had a good summer, had a good fall. We have a long ways to go, consistent with every single season that we’ve ever played. We had a great practice on either Monday or Tuesday, had a terrible practice yesterday. We kind of turned it around a little bit. I think we’re going to have a great one today, which will be awesome. It’s kind of the ebbs and flows of preseason.

“What we really try to focus on is trying to consistently improve, trying to focus on that process piece, trying to, if we have a successful day, not focusing on that necessarily, but making sure that the next one is just a little bit better. We’re competing. We’re fighting. Hopefully you’ll see that today at the practice for a little bit, and then hopefully you’ll see it once we play Robert Morris, I believe, on the 4th,” Iowa head men’s basketball coach Ben McCollum said of his squad during Wednesday’s media day.
Iowa opens its season on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. CT against Robert Morris. The Hawkeyes’ season opener is slated for a 7:30 p.m. CT tipoff and will air on the Big Ten Network.
