The Celtics will have an open two-way roster spot heading into their final preseason contest tonight.
Boston has waived rookie forward RJ Luis Jr. ahead of its matchup against Toronto, per NBA insider Michael Scotto.
Luis, originally an undrafted signing by the Utah Jazz after winning Big East Player of the Year at St. John’s, was acquired by the Celtics in a trade that sent Georges Niang and two second round picks to Utah on Aug. 6.
Luis played 8 minutes across three preseason games for Boston, most recently scoring 2 points on 1/2 shooting with one rebound against Cleveland on Oct. 12.
As it stands, the Celtics currently have two-way deals reserved for second round rookies Max Shulga and Amari Williams. They have four players on the training camp roster that are eligible for the third and final two-way deal in guard Ron Harper Jr. and forwards Kendall Brown, Wendell Moore Jr., and Jalen Bridges. Both Brown and Bridges spent their offseason with the Celtics in Summer League, while Moore was signed to an Exhibit 10 contract on Sept. 26.
Each player will likely receive significant play time as preseason comes to a close at home against the Raptors, with the game set to start at 7:30 p.m.
