The Indiana Fever narrowly missed out on playing in the WNBA Finals this past season, as they battled with injuries to superstar Caitlin Clark and others.
Despite the obvious disappointment, Fever veteran Sophie Cunningham is already looking forward to next season with optimism as she believes in the leaders on the team: Clark, head coach Stephanie White and GM Amber Cox.

Clark came into the WNBA back in 2024 and quickly took over the league with her performances. She also integrated herself into the Fever’s front office as well, having a hand in many of the team’s transactions over the past year.
While Cox has the final say as Indiana’s general manager, her superstar guard’s opinion was also sought when bringing in a head coach like White and an experienced player like Cunningham.

Cunningham believes Caitlin Clark has earned the power over Indiana’s decision-making
Recently, Sophie Cunningham spoke about the level of her teammate’s influence on the latest episode of her podcast with West Wilson on October 14.

“Those types of athletes, they get to come into an organization, they have the green light and they can do whatever they want,” she said about Clark.
“While that is very rare to get drafted and be able to control the whole system. But when you have a generational talent like that, she should have a lot to say about the system,” Cunningham added.
Cunningham signed a one-year, $100,000 contract with the Indiana Fever for the 2025 season. Since joining the team, both she and teammate Lexie Hull have maintained a close friendship with Caitlin Clark.
Clark was given control over certain decisions about the construction of the team alongside Cox and how its offense ran under White. The result was a successful season, which was unfortunately derailed by injuries.

However, the Fever guard continues to develop as a leader and Cunningham is one of many in the team who has bought in, as evidenced by her comments.
