The college basketball season is right around the corner so, of course, we have to start looking ahead to the 2026 NCAA Tournament.
ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has released a new batch of bracketology projections, and he to no surprise has the Spartans in the field of 68 teams. Lunardi currently has Michigan State listed as a No. 6 seed in the Midwest Region.

Per Lunardi’s projections, Michigan State would play the winner of No. 11 seeds Virginia and Villanova in a first round matchup in St. Louis. Should the Spartans win this projected first round game, they would play the winner of No. 3 seed Tennessee and No. 14 seed Troy.
The Spartans are ranked No. 22 in the preseason Associated Press (AP) Top 25 poll, and expected to again be an upper-tier Big Ten team this season. So Lunardi’s seed projection for Michigan State in this latest batch of bracketology is pretty spot on compared to other preseason resources.
