Who is Layla Kiffin?
Lane and Layla met when he was at USC, though the official date or year isn’t known. Kiffin got to USC in 2001 as the tight ends coach.
Monte Kiffin is considered one of the greatest defensive coordinators of all time and is widely credited as the “father” of the Tampa 2 defensive scheme.
He played offensive and defensive tackle at Nebraska from 1959 to 1963 and spent the 1964 offseason with the Minnesota Vikings, though he didn’t make the full roster. Kiffin went on to play three seasons in the Continental Football League before retiring as a player and beginning his coaching career.

Monte coached in some capacity from 1966 to 2014, holding various assistant and defensive roles. He served as a head coach only once, at NC State from 1980 to 1982, finishing 16-17 with the Wolfpack. For the remainder of his career, he remained one of football’s most respected assistants.
He passed away in July 2024 at the age of 84. Most recently, from 2020 to 2023, he served as a player personnel analyst at Ole Miss, working alongside his son, Lane.

Most recently, he returned to the college game and became a defensive analyst for Ole Miss in 2024.
