It looks like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin won’t be stomping a mudhole at WrestleMania 42—at least, not according to anyone behind the scenes right now.
The WWE Hall of Famer lit up AT&T Stadium back at WrestleMania 38 in 2022 when he stunned Kevin Owens and walked out with a win in a No Holds Barred match. That was his first match since facing The Rock at WrestleMania XIX in 2003, and ever since that Texas return, speculation has swirled about whether he’d do it again.
But during a recent Fightful Select Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp shut down the idea that Austin’s comeback is currently in the works for the Las Vegas show in 2026.
“I’ve not. And usually in the months leading to Mania, I hear if something is pitched—like we reported he was coming out of retirement, we heard about the Roman Reigns pitch—but I’ve not heard about 2026 as of yet.”
That being said, Austin hasn’t ruled it out completely. Sapp noted that Austin made some comments at WrestleMania 41 that have kept fans talking.
“Now, he did tell people at Mania 41 that he might have one left in him, but other than that, I’ve not heard anything.”
So far, WWE isn’t moving on anything involving the Texas Rattlesnake—despite what fans may want. If anything changes, expect the internet to blow up in record time.
Would you want to see “Stone Cold” lace up the boots again for WrestleMania 42? Or should his last match against Kevin Owens remain the perfect sendoff? Sound off in the comments and let us know.
