Miami Norland parts ways with first-year head football coach

by

Just under three years removed from playing for a state championship, the Miami Norland Vikings will be looking for a second head coach as in many years.

According to a social media announcement by Miami Norland High School’s Instagram account, the principal Rhonda Gaines-Miller penned a statement that the Vikings’ football program would be moving forward from first-year head coach Tyronn Johnson and have named Horane Allison as the interim coach effective immediately.

Johnson had taken over during the off-season for former Miami Norland head coach Daryle Heidelburg, who stepped down after the 2024 season and had led the Vikings to the 2023 Class 2M state title game, where they had lost to Berkeley Prep in Tallahassee.

Here is Gaines-Miller message via the statement in its entirety:

Today, a difficult decision was made to part ways with Head Football Coach Johnson. We are grateful for his service, leadership, and the time and energy he dedicated to our student-athletes and football program during his tenure. His contributions throughout the season have been appreciated, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors. Effective immediately, Coach Horane Allison has been named Interim Head Coach. Coach Allison brings passion, integrity, and a strong commitment to our student-athletes, and we are confident in his ability to lead the team through the remainder of the season.
Our focus remains on supporting our student-athletes, maintaining a high standard of excellence, and building a program that reflects the values and pride of our community. Additional information will be forthcoming regarding Head Coach interviews. Thank you for your continued support.

The Vikings went into the 2025 season with high expectations and improved to 4-5 on the season after last week’s 30-14 win over Miami Columbus. Nonetheless, the school decided to make a change with just one game left in the season against Plantation on the road this Saturday.
