Bath and England winger Will Muir is to have surgery on his ankle and is set to be out for a number of weeks.
Muir has yet to play for Bath this season after picking up the injury during the pre-season win against Worcester last month.
He won his first England caps this summer during the tour to Argentina and was Bath’s top try scorer last season.
The 28-year-old was initially described as having a “minor injury” but surgery has now been decided as the best course of action.
Hooker Dan Frost is also out of action with a broken hand suffered during the defeat by Leicester Tigers on Saturday.
“Will Muir has gone for surgery so he’ll be out for a number of weeks,” head of rugby Johann van Graan told BBC Radio Bristol.
“Unfortunately Frosty broke his hand so he’ll be out for a number of weeks,” he added.
“We are very comfortable with the squad that we have and we’ll adapt accordingly.”
