For the third time this year, NASCAR and Formula 1 were more or less competing for the same eyeballs on Sunday and the television ratings for both arrived on Wednesday afternoon.
The Cup Series, after a stretch of poor viewership numbers on USA Network, returned to over-the-air NBC on Sunday and the Yellow Wood 500 drew 2.556 million viewers for a race that began at 2 p.m. ET.
The Formula 1 United States Grand Prix from Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas drew 1.5 million viewed on over-the-air ABC, with lights out occurring at 3 p.m. ET.
Previous similar same afternoon matchups produced the following results.
May 4: F1 Miami (ABC) drew 2.1 million and NASCAR Texas (FOX Sports 1) drew 2.56 million
June 15: F1 Montreal (ABC) drew 1.9 million and NASCAR Mexico City (Prime) drew 2.10
October 23 2024: F1 Austin 1.3m (ABC) and NASCAR Vegas (NBC) 2.2m
