Which Schools Have Captured the Most NCAA Team Championships?

This year’s NCAA Championships will be vastly different, thanks to changes intended to streamline the championship meets. In addition to changes to the schedule, consolation finals have been eliminated. Now, the ninth through 16th-place finishers will be determined by performances during the morning prelims. How will the overhaul be viewed? We’ll find out in March, when the championship meets are conducted in their new formats at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.

What we do know is that last year’s defending champs, Virginia (women) and Texas (men), will again be in the mix to lift trophies. Virginia is trying to become the first women’s program to win six consecutive crowns, as it shares the record of five straight championships with Texas and Stanford.

As for Texas, it is chasing its 17th NCAA men’s title, a total that is complemented by 13 runnerup finishes. Big Ten foes Michigan and Ohio State sit second and third on the list, but of their 23 combined titles, 21 were claimed between 1937 and 1962.
