Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson is quickly becoming a significant Heisman trophy candidate, and he has caught the attention of an important college football name. According to the NCAA, Ty Simpson ranks highly in several statistical categories. 11th in pass attempts, 11th in completions, tied for 2nd for least interceptions thrown, 7th in passing yards, 8th in passing touchdowns and 10th in passing efficiency. None of his Heisman hopeful counterparts register as that high on that many statistical categories.

After an unexpected loss to Florida State in the first game of the season, Alabama has played very well. In large part due to the play of Simpson. Each of their six wins have including significant production on offense. Their offensive low this season was 24 points vs Georgia. A game they narrowly won, 24-21. Through seven games, the Crimson Tide are beating their opponents by an average of +21 points per game. In 2025 Simpson is averaging a shade over 275 yards per game, with an impressive 18:1 touchdowns to interceptions ratio.
Alabama is in a good position at the halfway point. Despite the early loss to Florida State, who was ranked at that time, Alabama has four of their six wins coming against ranked opponents. Including Georgia and Vanderbilt, both of which have spent time in the top 10 this season. Of their five remaining games, two of those are against currently ranked teams. No. 20 LSU and No. 13 Oklahoma. The path to the SEC title game won’t be easy, but if Alabama and Simpson continue the way they have since week 2, they could find themselves in that SEC Championship game and a favorable college football playoff seeding.
Ty Simpson has been added to the Manning Award watchlist. Simpson joins other Heisman hopefuls like Fernando Mendoza, Julian Sayin, Dante Moore, Joey Aguilar, Carson Beck and Trinidad Chambliss. Many previous Manning Award winners went onto win the Heisman. The Manning Award shortlist, especially at this juncture is a list of the best quarterbacks in the country. This Saturday, Alabma travels to Williams-Brice Stadium to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks. The game will broadcast on ABC with a 3:30pm eastern kickoff.
