Women’s college basketball rankings: SEC teams in preseason Coaches Poll, AP Top 25

South Carolina women’s basketball leads a deep, talented pool of teams from the SEC in the preseason USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

No. 2 South Carolina is the highest-ranked of eight top-25 teams from the conference, earning three first-place votes — the most of any team other than No. 1 defending champion UConn, which beat Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks in the national championship game last season.

South Carolina may have lost to the Huskies in the title game, but has reloaded its roster with the addition of Ta’Niya Latson from the transfer portal this offseason. She led the NCAA with her 25.1 points per game in the 2024-25 season and could provide a much-needed closer for the Gamecocks.

Texas, LSU, Oklahoma and Tennessee are other SEC teams in the top 10. Ole Miss, Kentucky and Vanderbilt are other SEC teams in the top 25, while Alabama is unofficially ranked 29th based on votes received.
