Razorback Nation is in for a treat Friday night as John Calipari’s second season at the helm officially kicks off. The No. 14 Arkansas Razorbacks will roll out the red carpet at Bud Walton Arena when the Cincinnati Bearcats come to town for an exhibition clash set for 7 p.m.

The Hogs bring back the backbone of last year’s Sweet 16 squad that came within a whisker of the Elite Eight before bowing out 85–83 to Texas Tech in overtime. Returning to lead the charge are 6-foot-4 junior guard D.J. Wagner, 6-6 wings Karter Knox and Billy Richmond III, and 6-10 forward Trevon Brazile—each expected to play major minutes and keep the Razorbacks’ engine running smoothly.
But it’s not just familiar faces that have the Arkansas faithful buzzing. Calipari’s roster is stacked with a blend of battle-tested veterans and shiny new recruits who could turn this season into something special. Among the fresh faces are two five-star freshman guards: Darius Acuff Jr. from Detroit and Meleek Thomas from Pittsburgh. Acuff, a 6-3 lead guard with a silky handle and the flexibility to shift to shooting guard, is already drawing plenty of eyes in Fayetteville.
Last season, the team started clicking right around the time Wagner slid into the point guard role after Boogie Fland went down with an injury. Fland has since taken his talents to Florida—a program that, fittingly enough, was tabbed as the SEC favorite at Media Days.
