CHAMPAIGN — Illinois basketball added its third recruit to the 2026 recruiting class.
Four-star senior prospect Lucas Morillo announced on social media Friday that he’s given his verbal commitment to the Fighting Illini for the 2026-27 men’s season. Morillo will join four-star guard Ethan Brown and three-star forward Landon Davis in the incoming freshman class.
Morillo, a 6-foot-7 guard, plays for The Newman School in Boston and is a member of the Dominican Republic national team. He chose Illinois over UCLA, Texas, Marquette, Minnesota and Virginia.

During the summer, Morillo averaged 14.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.6 for the City Rocks, an EYBL team based in New York. He then had a standout FIBA U19 World Cup, putting up 20.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.
Illinois opens its 2025-26 campaign by hosting Jackson State on Nov. 3, starting a four-game, 11-day stretch playing at State Farm Center in Champaign.
