Ethan Ekk, Ryan Erisman Set Marks in Cal-Stanford-Arizona State Double Dual
Freshmen distance standouts Ethan Ekk and Ryan Erisman set their respective school records in the men’s 1,000 freestyle at the Avery Double Dual Meet between California, Stanford and Arizona State.
Ekk, a Stanford freshman, went 8:42.25 to take down Grant Shoults’ three-year-old record. Erisman followed in 8:43.48, his time better than the Cal program mark set in the spring by Lucas Henveaux.
The early races highlighted a fast day of racing in Palo Alto, which included a best time for Olympian Torri Huske in the 100 backstroke and a slew of top-10 program times. The Arizona men and Stanford women are on top at the midway point of the two-day reunion of old Pac-12 foes.

Two swimmers won two individual events on the opening day. Stanford’s Caroline Bricker went 1:52.83 in the 200 fly, a 1-2 result with teammate Emily Thompson, then claimed the 400 individual medley in 4:04.30.
On the men’s side, Arizona State grad transfer Remi Fabiani won the 200 free in 1:32.56, outtouching Stanford’s Henry McFadden by .17 seconds, then went 41.68 to best teammate Jonny Kulow (42.02) in the 100 free. Fabiani was even quicker on the relay, going 41.46 to lead Arizona State’s 400 free relay to a victorious time of 4:27.07. He joined Adam Chaney, Tommy Palmer and Kulow.
Chaney also led off a 200 medley relay that went 1:23.54 to edge Stanford, Kulow splitting 18.82 on the end. The Florida transfer Chaney went 44.49 to win the 100 back in a 1-2-3 with Lucien Vergnes and Jordan Tiffany. Chaney’s time is fourth in Sun Devils program history. Michael Hochwalt edged Ekk to the 400 IM title.
In addition to Ekk, Gibson Holmes picked up a win for Stanford. He went 1:42.35 to win the 200 fly, .23 seconds up on Cal’s Casper Puggaard and .24 on ASU’s Filip Senc-Samardzic.
Cal’s only win came Yamato Okadome in the 100 breaststroke.
On the women’s side, Stanford claimed both relays, each featuring Huske. She split 22.65 in fly to help the 200 medley win in 1:34.76, and she led off the 400 free in 47.32 for a winning time of 3:12.00. Huske’s time in the 100 free was quicker than the individual event, a tie between Stanford mate Gigi Johnson and Cal’s Mia West in 47.89. Third was the Cardinal’s Annam Olasewere, who was on both winning relays.
In addition to Huske and Bricker, Lucy Bell won the 100 breast in 58.29. She was just ahead of Cal freshman Silje Slyngstadli, whose 58.70 marked the second-best time in Golden Bears history.
Cal started fast in freestyle. Ella Cosgrove went 9:35.61 to win the 1,000 free, with Camille Henveaux second in 9:38.18. Those times are third and fourth in program history. Claire Weinstein posted another impressive 200 free, winning in 1:42.52, with Cosgrove third.
Cal’s Mary-Ambre Moluh was second to Huske in the 100 back in 51.98. Teagan O’Dell finished third, then was second to Bricker in the 400 IM.
