Rohit Sharma now plays only the ODI format, having retired from both Test and T20I cricket. There has been considerable speculation about the future of his international career.
“Always love coming here and playing here. Fond memories of 2008. I’m not sure if we’ll be coming back to Australia, but we enjoy our cricket no matter what accolades we achieve,” Rohit said after being named Player of the Match and Player of the Series.
Rohit will turn 40 and Kohli 39 by the time the 2027 ODI World Cup arrives. Rohit was recently removed from the ODI captaincy as the selectors do not see him as a guaranteed pick for the tournament. He will need to continue performing at the highest level to maintain his place in the squad.

After winning the toss, Australia elected to bat first in the third ODI but struggled to build a big total. Matt Renshaw scored 56 off 58 balls and captain Mitchell Marsh added 41 from 50 deliveries. The hosts were bowled out for 236 in 46.4 overs. Harshit Rana took 4 wickets for 39 runs in his 8.4 overs.
India began their chase with openers Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma adding 69 runs. After Gill was dismissed for 24, Virat Kohli joined Rohit at No. 3. Rohit scored his 33rd ODI century, while Kohli contributed an unbeaten 74. They added an unbeaten 168-run partnership for the second wicket.
Despite Australia winning the series 2-1, Rohit and Kohli’s outstanding partnership stole the spotlight in Sydney. The duo will next feature in the three-match ODI series at home against South Africa, starting November 30 in Ranchi.
