The crowded ATP calendar and busy schedule are the reasons why many tennis players suffered injuries this year and decided to retire from well-known tournaments. While the public, tennis players and fans are calling for certain changes, it seems that ATP leaders are not particularly open to such changes.
The latest in a series of examples is Casper Ruud, who had to retire due to injury at the Swiss Indoors in Basel.
The Norwegian tennis player started his adventure at this tournament furiously, defeating Halys and Wawrinka in straight sets. The quarterfinal duel nevertheless brought a negative outcome for Casper Ruud, who had to retire from the match due to injury.
After the end of the tournament, Ruud's frustration was visible, as he had not expected such a scenario, but he is aware that the world of tennis is sometimes unpredictable and that injuries are an integral part of a player’s career.
The popular tennis player sent a message to fans and friends via social media, saying that he is saddened by such events, but aware that in the future he must listen to his body.
"Not the ending I hoped for in Basel, but congratulations to Alejandro.
Sorry to the fans, sometimes you just have to listen to your body. Time to recover and get ready for Paris," he wrote.
